E-Visa to Russia
Apply online and get a visa in just 4 days!

A new, paperless visa regime is forecast to make Russia one of the world’s top 10 destinations. The 53 lucky nations who qualify for the e-visa can now visit St Petersburg region without the costly trip to the Russian consulate. The electronic visa website works 24/7, one can apply online and the processing takes only 4 days; all you need is your passport, the digital photo and internet connection. The system is due to be extended to the whole territory of Russia from January 2021 and will be a great step forward to making Russia even more accessible.

As easy as it is to apply, the rules and regulations must be followed: if you plan to visit Moscow or travel on Trans Siberian Rail, you will need to apply for a regular visa at the consulate at the moment. But a short trip to St Petersburg and Ladoga Lake falls under the e-visa rule!

Since St Petersburg also introduced open skies regime over Pulkovo Airport, starting from 1 January 2020, Europe’s three largest low-cost airlines,Ryanair, EasyJet and Wizz Air, have applied to fly in and out of St. Petersburg. IntoRussia is closely monitoring the situation and as soon as new flights are announced, we will publish the news on our Facebook page. Please follow our FaceBook page.

1. An e-visa is only issued for visits to one of the following three regions of the Russian Federation: the Far-Eastern Federal District, or Kaliningrad Oblast, or Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast. An e-visa issued for a visit to one of the three above-listed regions is not valid for visits to other regions of the Russian Federation.

2. An e-visa is free. Invitations, hotel booking confirmations or any other documents that confirm the purpose of your journey to the Russian Federation are not required for an e-visa. The time period for issuing an e-visa is no longer than 4 calendar days from the date of submission of the complete application.

3. E-visa can be used for entering and leaving the Russian Federation at the following checkpoints at the national border of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, Kaliningrad Oblast, Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast:

*air checkpoints «Vladivostok (Knevichy Airport)», «Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Khomutovo Airport)», «Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo Airport)», «Blagoveschensk», «Khabarovsk (Novy Airport)», «Anadyr (Ugolny Airport)», «Kaliningrad (Khrabrovo)», «Ulan-Ude (Muhino)», «Chita (Kadala)», «Pulkovo»;

*naval checkpoints «Vladivostok», «Zarubino», «Posiet», «Korsakov», «Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky», «Kaliningrad (checkpoints in the cities of Kaliningrad, Baltiysk and Svetly)», «Vysotsk», «Big port Saint Petersburg (Marine Station)», «Passenger port Saint Petersburg»;

*railroad checkpoints «Pogranichny», «Khasan», «Makhalino», «Mamonovo», «Sovetsk»;

*automobile checkpoints «Poltavka», «Turiy Rog», «Bagrationovsk», «Gusev», «Mamonovo (Grzechotki)», «Mamonovo (Gronowo)», «Morskoje», «Pogranichny», «Sovetsk», «Chernyshevskoye», «Ivangorod», «Torfjanovka», «Brusnitchnoe», «Svetogorsk»; *pedestrian checkpoint «Ivangorod».

4. E-visa is a single-entry visa and issued for 30 calendar days from the date of its issuance. The permitted stay in the Russian Federation with an e-visa is up to 8 days starting from the date of entry, within its validity period. The e-visa validity period and (or) the allowed period of stay under the e-visa are not subject to extension, except in cases where it is impossible to leave the territory of the Russian Federation due to medical emergency, or force-majeure circumstances, or natural hazards.

ATTENTION! The allowed period of stay in the Russian Federation of up to 8 days under an e-visa does not imply that one can stay for the entire 192 hours (24 hours multiplied by 8). The day of entry and the day of exit are counted as two days. You can use the visa calculator to determine how long you will be allowed to stay in the Russian Federation. Just remember one simple rule: if you, for example, passed through the passport control when entering on Monday, you must pass the passport control for exit no later than the next Monday. If you entered on Tuesday, you must exit no later than the next week's Tuesday (and so on for each day of the week). In any case you must exit no later than the visa expiry date, even if your period of stay is less than 8 days. For instance, you entered on Monday and the validity period of the visa expires on Sunday: in this case, you must exit no later than Sunday.

5. E-visas can be of the following categories only: ordinary business visa (purpose of journey is business), ordinary tourist visa (purpose of journey is tourism), and ordinary humanitarian visa (purposes of journey are sports, cultural, scientific and technological ties). If the purpose of your journey to the Russian Federation does not correspond to any of the above, you should apply for a traditional (non electronic) visa at a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Russian Federation.

6. Foreign citizens who have arrived in the Russian Federation with e-visas issued for the Far-Eastern Federal District are entitled to move freely only within the territory of the constituent entity of Russian Federation (making part of the Far-Eastern Federal District) of their entry. Foreign citizens may only exit from the Russian Federation through border crossing points of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation of their entry.

7. Foreign citizens who have arrived in the Russian Federation with e-visas issued for Kaliningrad Oblast are entitled to move freely only within the territory of Kaliningrad Oblast. Foreign citizens may only exit from the Russian Federation through border crossing points of Kaliningrad Oblast.

8. Foreign citizens who have arrived in the Russian Federation with e-visas issued for Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast are entitled to move freely only within the territories of Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast. Foreign citizens may only exit from the Russian Federation through border crossing points of Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast.

9. You can fill in an application form for an e-visa on this website http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/ not earlier than 20 days and no later than 4 days before the intended date of entry into the Russian Federation

10. Indication of date, month and year of birth is mandatory when filling out the application form. If your full date of birth is not specified in your passport, the e-visa application cannot be accepted for processing. In this case you need to contact a diplomatic mission or a consular office of the Russian Federation and apply for a regular visa (not an e-visa).

11. If you are traveling with your minor children indicated in your passport, a separate e-visa application must be submitted for each child. All minor children traveling with their parents must have their own e visa.

12. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you applied for an e-visa. Your passport must have free space for border crossing stamps.

13. Foreign citizens who have arrived to the Russian Federation with e-visas are required to have a medical insurance valid in the Russian Federation's territory for the entire period of stay.

14. There is no need to apply for an e-visa to enter the Far Eastern Federal District, Kaliningrad Oblast, Saint-Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast if you already have a valid Russian visa in your passport. You are allowed to enter the said regions using a regular visa within its validity period with no limitations provided for by an e-visa. An e-visa does not extend the validity period of a regular visa.

15. Before you apply for an e-visa you are required to agree to the automatic processing, transfer and storage of data provided in your application for the purpose of the e-visa issuance.

16. Your application must contain full and valid data. Any incorrect information, including passport data and photo, could cause revocation of an already issued visa at the national border checkpoint of the Russian Federation.

PROCEDURE FOR FILLING OUT AN E-VISA APPLICATION FORM

1. Your surname, given name(s), and patronymic name (if any) must be indicated in the application form precisely as they are indicated in the first machine-readable line of your passport, irrespective of how they are indicated in the visual zone of the passport.

2. In the machine-readable line of the passport, the surname always starts with the 6th character of the first line. The surname in the machine-readable line is separated from the given name(s) by the "<<" symbols. The "<" symbol serves to separate parts of the surname (if there are more than one) and given names (if there are more than one). The patronymic name (if any) is considered one of the given names.

3. If your surname consists of several parts (words) and they do not fit in the "Surname" field of the application form, you should indicate all the initial parts (words) of your surname that can be entered in full in this field, in the same order and exactly as they appear in the first machine-readable line of your passport. Parts (words) of the surname that could not be entered in full in the "Surname" field of the application form may not be abbreviated and/or entered in the "Given Name(s)" field.

4. Your given name(s) and patronymic name (if any) must be entered in the "Given Name(s)" field of the application form in the same order and exactly as they are written in the first machine-readable line of your passport, even if they appear in this line as separate letters.

5. If your passport number contains a symbol that looks like the Latin letter "O", be sure to find it in the first nine symbols of the second machine-readable line of your passport and make sure that it is really the letter "O" and not the digit "0".

6. If your passport number contains a symbol that looks like the Roman numeral "I", do not indicate the digit "1" in the application – it is not a number but the Latin letter "I".

7. Please be very careful! Even one incorrect letter or digit in your passport details is a reason for denying entry into the Russian Federation and cancelling your visa at a checkpoint.

1. Before you fill in your application form, make sure you have the following:

*A web browser with JavaScript. The application website currently supports the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge. We cannot guarantee that the site would function correctly with other browsers.

*Software for PDF files viewing and printing. Adobe Acrobat Reader is recommended.

*Your valid national passport. Choose the tips language from the relevant drop-down list. Tips will clarify the meaning of the questions you need to answer. If you have chosen Russian as the tips language all answers to the questions in the application must be entered only in Russian, with the exception of surnames, given names, addresses and names of institutions that are required to be entered in English. If you have chosen English all your answers must be only in English with the use of the Latin alphabet characters.

2. Confirm that you agree to the automatic processing, transfer and storage of data provided in your application for e-visa purposes.

3. To start a new application, click the "Proceed to Fill in the Application" button.

If you have made any errors while filling in the form or have not filled in the required fields, they will be highlighted and a message will appear under them indicating the error you need to fix.

8. Upload your digital color photo in the JPEG format. The photo must meet the following requirements.

*The photo must be no more than six months old as of the date of the application and reflect your current appearance. The photo must show you alone. No foreign objects (chair back, pictures on the walls, etc.) or other people must be visible in the photo.

*The photo must be taken in full-face view. The head must not be tilted or turned. You must look directly at the camera with a neutral expression, your mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible. No hair across your eyes.

*The photo must be taken with uniform lighting and not show shadows, flash reflections on your face and no red eyes. The photo must be taken with a plain light-colored background with no shadows.

*Applicants whose religious beliefs prohibit them to be seen with their heads uncovered are allowed to wear a head covering that does not conceal facial features in the photo. In this case, please make sure that your face is clearly visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead.

*If you wear glasses, your eyes must be clearly visible in the photo. Flash reflection off the lenses, as well as tinted lenses are not allowed (if possible, avoid heavy frames – wear lighter framed glasses, if you have them). Make sure that the frames do not cover your eyes (even partly).

*The photo must show the top of your head and the top of your shoulders. Your head must be in the center of the photo and be fully shown from the top of the hairline or the crown of the head to the tip of the chin. The nose must be on the symmetry line. The face must take up 70-80 percent of the photo.

*The photo must have no frames.

*The photo must be rectangular (with the 35x45 aspect ratio).

*The colour scheme must be neutral. The colours must show the natural skin tone. The image must be clear, well defined and in focus.

9. Click the button sending the application and wait for the confirmation of its acceptance for processing.

After sending your application:

You can use the site to follow up on the status of your application. Once a relevant decision is taken, the status of your application will be changed to “Visa issued” or “Visa denied”. You will be able to download a PDF file with the information concerning the decision on the application thereafter. Automatic messages concerning the status of your application and the decision thereon as well as detailed instructions for further steps will be sent to your personal e-mail.

Download and print the notification with your e-visa. Otherwise, save the information set out in the notification, so that you could visually present it to representatives of a transport company when getting on a vehicle and passport control officers at a national border checkpoint when entering the Russian Federation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not save the PDF file with the result of your application examination on the computer that can be accessed by those who have no permission to view or record your personal data. If you save the file to the hard drive of a public computer, for instance, in an Internet café or a library, other users may find and open it.

If you have not received a notification of e-visa grant or e-visa refusal within four days, you can apply for a visa as per standard procedure at a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Russian Federation.
