Day 1, Moscow (no cycling)
Arrival. Transfer to the hotel. Meet with your travel guide for the short briefing. After dinner at the hotel, you will be offered a walking tour around centre of Moscow. Night at the hotel.
Day 2, Uglich (20 km of cycling)
After breakfast at the hotel transfer by bus to Ratmanovo (about 220 km). On the way you will stop at Sergiev Posad, to explore one of UNESCO world heritage sites -The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra. The first part of the journey on your bike will be to Uglich (cycle 20 km). Uglich is a charming town on the Volga River. You will be enjoying view of Volga for next 7 days, as road will take you along its picturesque shore. After city tour and visiting the museum of vodka, check in at the nice hotel with the river view.
Day 3, Uglich – Myshkin (40 km of cycling)
Start your morning with unusual and a very interesting place - museum of hydropower (it is much more interesting than you think!). You will cycle today for 40 km by a quiet road to Myshkin town. Myshkin (“mice town” in Russian) is a small settlement on the Volga River with plenty of museums, historical places and just stunning views. Check in at the hotel near river. In the late afternoon a local guide will show you this charming town, free time in the evening.
Day 4, Myshkin – Rybinsk (75 km of cycling)
In the morning you start cycling to Rybinsk along Volga River by a picturesque and quiet road. Along the way you will see lots of old wooden houses (typical architecture of that time) end of 19/20 century. After crossing the Volga by ferry you continue to Rybinsk. In Rybinsk visit the historic museum of the region and then continue 18 km further to a nice countryside hotel for overnight stay.
Day 5 Rybinsk – Yaroslavl (90 km of cycling)
Today is going to be the longest day of cycling – 90 km (including 5 km on gravel road) to the 1000 years old city of Yaroslavl. On the way you will make a rest stop in small town Tutaev which preserves its authenticity since 19 century. You will have a chance to visit 17 century church with frescos of famous Gury Nikitin. On arrival to Yaroslavl check in at the modern hotel in the center of the city.
Day 6, Yaroslavl (no cycling)
No cycling today, instead have a walking tour of Yaroslavl with a local guide. The whole center of the city with around 140 architectural monuments has been included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites- lots to see! Free time in the afternoon. Special dinner and video in the evening.
Day 7, Yaroslavl – Viatskoe (60 km of cycling)
The old merchant village of Viatskoe is our destination. Your journey will include approx. 2 km of gravel road as well as 10 km of bumpy ride. Viatskoe has been named as “Russia’s most beautiful village”, half of the buildings in the village (54 out of 114) are officially listed as architectural monuments. In the evening enjoy Russian banya (steam bathhouse).
Day 8, Vyatskoe – Kostroma (57 km of cycling)
Cycle to Kostroma will be the most adventures day of the tour. You will start with 25 km of cycling on a very quiet road, then 7 km in the woods via sandy road. You will rich the dock from where you will embark on a boat to cross the river. After the boat crossing continue by a small road to Kostroma (20 km). In Kostroma, visit the Outdoor museum of Wooden Architecture & Peasant Life and stay for a night in a hotel in the very centre of the city next to the river. Dinner at the boat with local wine tasting.
Day 9, Kostroma – Ples (63 km of cycling)
You will go through some unpaved shortcut (approx. 2km of sandy road) and use the boat crossing Volga again to get to Ples. The small town is famous for its incredible landscape and work of Russian artist Isaak Levitan, who used to work here in the 19 century. Walking tour of Ples with visiting Levitan hill and famous coffee shop named after Sofia Kuvshinnikova. Here you may try favourite cookie of I. Levitan and Russian cheesecake “Kuleika”. A short bus transfer to Suzdal (150 km).
Day 10, Suzdal (20 km of cycling)
Cycling day in town of Suzdal (UNESCO world heritage). After city sightseeing, enjoy a guided tour of the Spaso-Ephimy monastery. Farewell dinner in one of the best restaurants in town.
Day 11, Suzdal - Bogolubovo – Vladimir – Moscow (50 cycling)
Cycling to Bogolubovo to see the famous Church of Intercession on the Nerl; next stop is Vladimir where you have a guided tour of the historic center including the Assumption monastery with Andrey Rublev frescos. Lunch at the local restaurant. Next, a bus ride back to Moscow (200 km). Arrival to Moscow around 6 pm (depends on traffic), check in at the hotel.
Day 12, Moscow (no cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport. Optional stay in Moscow or St. Petersburg (please speak to our destination experts to add extra nights to your tour).
Moscow to St Petersburg, 9 days

Day 1 Moscow (no cycling)
Welcome to Moscow! On Arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel in the east part of the City (15 minutes by metro from the Red Square). Meet with your travel guide for the short briefing. After the buffet dinner at the hotel, you will be offered a walking tour around centre of Moscow. Night at the hotel.
Day 2 Moscow (30 km of cycling)
After breakfast you start with a bicycle tour of Moscow. The road will take you along the river to the Victory Park. You will pass the Kremlin, the Gorky Park, Vorob’evy hills with a spectacular view point of Moscow. After lunch, transfer by bus to Tver (200 km), an old city on shore of the Volga River. After settling down at the hotel in the centre of the city, you will join a guided walking tour of Tver finished by a traditional dinner.
Day 3 Tver-Torzhok (64 km of cycling)
After a short transfer to see the Medoe memorial (30 km), we take a quite road through forest to Torzhok with almost no cars to see. On the way, have a short stop near the house-museum of famous Russian opera singer, Sergey Lemeshev. After arrival to Torzhok, explore the old town (famous for its unique architecture and folk craft of gold work embroidery) during the city tour with a knowledgeable tour guide. The Torzhok is also a place where chicken cutlets (called Pozharskie) were invented. They say the Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin used to eat them here. You will have a cooking class to try and learn to cook this famous dish.
Overnight in the hotel in an old historic building in the city centre.
Day 4 Lake Seliger: Svetlitsa-Petrikovo (35 km of cycling)
Start your day with a bus transfer to Svetlitsa, Seliger lake (140 km), and visit the Saint Nil monastery. The monastery is one of the most impressive examples of Neoclassical architecture in Eastern Europe, some of its churches were built in the 17th century. Overnight in another country hotel near lake Sig. Here you can try a real Russian steam bath (banya).
Day 5 Staraya Russa (60 km of cycling)
Early morning bus transfer to Korpovo (120 km). From here you cycle to Staraya Russa– around 60 km (mostly good road with very few cars). Staraya Russa is old provincial town famous for its SPA resort and Fedor Dostoevsky museum. (Fedor Dostoevsky used to live in Staraya Russa from 1872 till his death in 1881. He wrote here his novels The Brothers Karamazov and The Possessed.) After settling in the hotel, take a short walk to the spa resort for mineral water tasting and some relaxing time. Enjoy dinner at the nest restaurant in the town.
Day 6 Veliky Novgorod (35 km of cycling)
After visiting Dostoevsky museum there is a short bus transfer to Borki (75 km) from where you cycle a scenic road along lake Ilmen to Veliky Novgorod (35 km). You will have a stop at Ur’evo to see the oldest Russian monastery and the open-air museum of wooden architecture "Vitoslavitsy". On arrival to Veliky Novgorod check in at the hotel, next to the city Kremlin. Later today a local guide will show you the first capital of Russia in its full glory.
Day 7 Veliky Novgorod - Selitschi (58 km of cycling)
You start in Novgorod and cycle to Selitschi along Volkhov river by quiet road. You stop near ruins of Arakcheev barracks to explore. The last part of your journey today is a bus transfer to St. Petersburg (150 km). In the White Nights tour (May departure), you can watch the night opening of bridges (optional).
Day 8 St. Petersburg 30 km
Today is all about the Venice of the North – St Petersburg. Explore the city on cycling sightseeing tour! In the evening, join everyone for the farewell dinner and get a chance to relieve the adventure with your fellow travellers.
Day 9 St. Petersburg (no cycling)
Time to say goodbye to your amazing adventure. You can extend your time in St Petersburg – just speak with one of our destination experts to add extra nights to your tour.
Guided tour to Hermitage or bus tour to Peterhof can be added as optional.

Day 1 Moscow (no cycling)
Welcome to Moscow! Upon arrival, you are transferred to the hotel. Night at the hotel.
Day 2 Moscow (no cycling)
After breakfast, meet with your travel guide for a walking tour around centre of Moscow and visit to A. Pushkin museum. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 Moscow – Pushkinskie Gory (40 km of cycling)
Start your day with bus transfer to Pushkinskie Gory - a large open air museum around the former A Pushink's family mansion. The area includes several villages, each with it's own mansion and a park, surrounding forests and riverside landscape. Visit to Pushkin State Memorial Museum. Stay at the hotel overnight.
Day 4 Pushkinskie Gory - Ostrov (80 km of cycling)
Out of 80 km of cycling today, 10 km will be on unpaved road, if weather permits.
Day 5 Ostrov – Izborsk (60km of cycling)
Visit to Izborsk castle - one of the most ancient (the first mention about Izborsk was in 682!) and impressive fortresses of Western Russia.
Day 6 Izborsk – Pechory-Pechkin (50km of cycling)
Visit to Pechorsky Monastery - one of the very few monasteries in Russia that have never been closed sinse it's opening.
Day 7 Pskov - St Petersburg (no cycling)
A bus transfer to Pskov. Sightseeing tour of Pskov and visit to Kremlin. Train to St Petersburg.
Day 8 St Petersburg (no cycling)
After breakfast enjoy a walking tour aroud St Petersburg including visit to museum of A. Pushkin. Farewell dinner at literature cafe.
Day 9 Moscow (no cycling)
Your tour comes to an end. After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the airport. Optional stay in Moscow or St. Petersburg (please speak to our destination experts to add extra nights to your tour).
Between Moscow and St Petersburg Cycling tours is available for SUMMER 2021 on enquiry basis.

If you are tired you can always take the car for part of the route
Non-riding spouses, or friends are welcome to join the tour and can follow the group in the car
