Few natural sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of the Pearl of Siberia. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world and holds 20% of the world’s freshwater. It stretches for 636 km longwise and 80 km widthwise. The Baikal’s maximum depth is 1,637 m. It is known as a "laboratory of biodiversity" as it is home to nearly 3,000 species of animals and plants, many of which are found nowhere else, such as a unique breed of freshwater seal.

Listvyanka
Listvyanka village is located on the shore of Lake Baikal 65 km away from Irkutsk city. This village was founded in the18th century and got its name from larch trees growing on the nearest cape. At the end of the 1920s, a Limnologicalstation was founded here; later it became the Limnological Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences. Its museum is already 10 years in existence and is visited annually by over 50,000 people. The exhibits acquaint visitorswith the history of studying and researching Lake Baikal, its fauna and its flora.
Day 1

Upon arrival in Irkutsk, you are transferred to the Mayak Hotel situated in Listvyanka Village on the banks of stunning Lake Baikal. Relax with some free time before the New Year Gala Dinner in the hotel, complete with games, gifts, surprises and fireworks. What better way to welcome in the New Year? (L, D)

Day 2
1 January 2019

After breakfast, make the most of your free time in Listvyanka. Take a stroll on the banks of Lake Baikal where you can watch locals make ice sculptures, go dog sledding or take a trip on a Khivus motorship across the ice (payable locally). (B)

Day 3
2 January 2019

Today, visit the Baikal Musuem where you can virtually dive to the bottom of the lake and learn about the flora and fauna, some of which are unique to the area. In the afternoon, take a trip to the local market where you have the opportunity to buy souvenirs and try smoked Baikal fish. (B)

Day 4
3 January 2019

Visit the Talsty Open Air Ethnographic Museum located on the banks of the Angara River. The museum is home to examples of Eastern Siberian wooden architecture and will give you an insight into life in rural Russia. Transfer to Irkutsk for accommodation in Angara Hotel. (B, D)

Day 5
4 January 2019

Free day in Irkutsk - spend the day at your leisure! Make the most of it before taking the flight back home the next day. Accommodation in Irkutsk – hotel “Angara”. (B)

3 January 2019

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
