8 days/ 7 nights
Unforgettable journey to Baikal Lake!

Discover the beauty of lake Baikal – largest freshwater lake in the world and the world's deepest lake. Get to know its people and the many cultures that thrive together in the Buryat Republic. See the The Circum Baikal Railway: the trans-Siberian rail section that was built more than 100 years ago! Travel to the magnificent Olkhon Island: the biggest island as well as the geographical, historical and sacred centre of the lake. Drive Russian 4WD cars, have a picnic on cape Khoboy (try the local delicacy, the Omul fish, this is truly the only place in the world you can do that!). Learn all about the roots of the local Buryat people in Ust Orda settlement and stand in the heart of the Buryat Republic – in Ulan Ude; take a trip to Ivolginsky Datsan – a Buddhist monastery complex, founded during Stalin's times and with his permission. The highlight of the tour should be the visit to the village of Tarbagatai, the Russian Orthodox Old Believers, a sect of the Orthodox Church guided by traditions that predate the church’s 17th-century reforms.

Circum Baikal Railway
Circum Baikal Railway

The Circum-Baikal Railway is a historical railway in the Irkutsk region of Russia. It runs along the Northern shore of the Southern extremity of the lake from the town of Slyudyanka to the Baikal settlement. Until the middle of the 20th century the Circum-Baikal railway was part of the main line of Trans-Siberian Railway; later on, however, a duplicate section of the railway was built. Sometimes called a unique achievement in engineering, the Circum-Baikal is one of the picturesque sights of the area around Lake Baikal.

Olkhon Island
Olkhon Island

Olkhon is the fourth-largest lake-bound island in the world. It is by far the largest island in Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia, with an area of 730 km2 (280 sq mi). The western shore ends with the many bays of the Maloye More. The island is 72 kilometres long and 15 kilometres wide.Scientists still debate whether 'Olkhon' translates as 'little forest' or 'dry' as both names fit well.Olkhon has a great combination of landscapes and is rich in archaeological landmarks. Olkhon is the geographical, historical and sacred centre of Lake Baikal. There are many legends and fairy tales about the island; it is believed to be the home of numerous Baikal spirits.

Khobody
Khobody

Khobody got its name from the most prominent part of the cape - a flat stone platform with a form like the fang of an animal («Khoboy» means fang in the Buryat language). Time, Baikals winds, cruel frosts and burning sunshine have left their indelible mark on Khoboy's fang - in places it is pierced by holes. There is a large opening through the ridge of the cliff itself linking the island with the platform. The opening is big enough for a person to stand up in with ease. Khoboy has yet another face that can be seen in summer from the water or in winter from the ice: the southern end of the «fang» seen from the side resembles a woman's profile and is called Deva (the maiden).

Ust-Orda
Ust-Orda

Ust-Orda is a village in Irkutsk region. The village is located mostly on the right coast of the Kuda River (one of the tributaries of the Angara), 62km to the north of the regional centre. The river flow into several smaller rivers, among them there is the Ordushka (Orda) which gave the name to the village. Ust-Orda is surrounded by hills from the west and east, the height in some places reaches 700 m. 3 km away from the village is located the Bulen Mountain, which is the sacred place for Buryat people even nowadays. Buryats are very numerous ethnic groups inhabiting the territory of Siberia. Ust-Orda region is known for the roots of the Buryat traditional culture having originated here. During the tour you will get acquainted with Buryat national folklore, national games and try traditional Buryat cuisine.

Ulan-Ude
Ulan-Ude

The Buryat capital is one of Eastern Siberia’s most fascinating cities. From 1934 to 1980s it was a closed city due to its secret military plants - in fact, there are still mysterious blank spaces on city maps. Today it offers a variety of cultural hot spots, a chance to visit working Buddhist monasteries and sample a taste of the steppes.
