St Isaac’s Cathedral
St Isaac’s Cathedral

St Isaac’s Cathedral is the largest cathedral in the city and dominates the skyline of St Petersburg. Designed by a French architect and taking 40 years to construct, it is the 3rd largest domed cathedral in the world! St Isaac’s is decorated with mosaics, painted ceiling murals, bronze gilt statues and is surrounded by 112 monolith granite columns, which were transported from one of the suburbs of the city. Now the cathedral houses a museum, but for the Major Orthodox holidays Religious services are still held here.

Peter & Paul Fortress
Peter & Paul Fortress

The first structure to be built in St. Petersburg, and thus the birthplace of the city, it never served its intended defensive function. Instead it has had a rich, hugely varied, and sometimes sinister history as a military base, a home of government departments, the burial ground of the Russian Imperial family, the site of groundbreaking scientific experiments, and a forbidding jail that held some of Russia's most prominent political prisoners.

Astoria Hotel and the legendary Yusupov Palace invite guests to spend the New Year’s eve in truly luxurious style: stay in one of the beautiful rooms, attend a unique concert in the Home Theatre of the palace, and have a midnight champagne toast at the lavish dinner in Astoria Restaurant. On December 31, 2018, the elegant guests will gather in the magnificent lobby of the famous hotel, to be comfortably transported to one of the most beautiful palaces of St Petersburg. The celebratory evening will start off with a welcome cocktail with an array of exquisite appetizers from the Chef – from king crab mini chouquettes with apples and celery to white almond and cucumber gazpacho with a golden drop, accompanied by Louis Roederer champagne. The guests will then be invited to a private tour of the ceremonial halls of the palace, will hear about its dazzling history and have their photos taken on the main staircase, and then follow into the beautiful Home Theatre. The Home Theatre of Yusupov Palace has a long and glorious history of private concerts for select guests. Musical salons and theatre plays would bring together famous and high-ranking guests, often times including members of Russian royal family. At all times the stage of the Home Theatre was given to the most prominent artists of the époque: composer and piano player Franz Liszt, ballerina Anna Pavlova, opera singer Fedor Shalyapin, poet Sergey Esenin. This New Year eve, performing for the privileged guests will be soloists of Mariinsky Theatre Dmitry Voropaev and Maria Bayankina.

Dmitry Voropaev is one of the prominent tenors of our time, the laureate of the Operalia World Opera Competition founded by Placido Domingo. Apart from Mariisnky Theatre, he also performs on the best opera stages of the world: from Austrian Graz to London’s Wigmore Hall. Maria Bayankina is a permanent participant of the Moscow Easter Festival directed by world famous Valery Gergiev and festivals by Denis Matsuev. She performs in Mariinsky Theatre concerts in Italy, UK, Sweden, Austria, France. The New Year’s Eve concert program will include arias from the world famous operas, lyrical and passionate romances, which will create a unique festive atmosphere in the magic ambiance of the Home Theatre.

After the concert, the guests will be taken to Astoria Restaurant for the luxurious dinner and New Year celebration, accompanied by live music. The seven course menu by Executive Chef includes duck liver Baluchon with sea urchin and hazelnut vinaigrette, seared Dublin Bay prawns with smoked egg plant caviar, smoked corn cream with foie gras and Jerusalem artichoke pelmeni, lobster medallions with coral and lemon butter and rice cream. Frozen blueberries with Beluga vodka granite will be served to cleanse the palate before the main course, where one can choose between the roasted turbot with garlic spinach and champagne & sevruga caviar reduction or slow seared veal chop with creamy morels and Anna potatoes. After President’s speech, the chiming clock countdown and champagne toast, the dessert will be served: tangerine, coffee and chocolate sphere by Executive Pastry Chef Yulia Ivanova. After the dinner, the guests are welcome to follow to the Lichfield Bar and Rotonda Lunge to enjoy cocktails and music and watch the celebrations in the city center through the panoramic windows.
